The Göttinger Symphonie Orchester just finished a short tour in Northern Germany and concerts in Bremen (the beautiful sounding hall “Die Glocke”), Wilhelmshaven, and Leer, playing for an enthusiastic audience. Our excellent soloist was Alexandre Tharaud in Rachmaninov’s 2nd Piano Concerto: A wonderful first collaboration of hopefully many more to come!

I am delighted to announce the publication of the world premiere recording of Debussy’s Edgar Allan Poe-based opera “The Devil in the Bell Tower” together with “The Fall of the House Usher”, a perfect combination Debussy stipulated himself in a contract with the Metropolitan Opera New York. Robert Orledge is the music wizard who was able to complete both operas.
Tonight’s concert was a blast! The perfect timing: The start of my new series “Cultural Meetings, Perspective China” at Chinese New Year’s Eve, with works by Li Huanzhi, Lehár, Liu Tianhua, Bach…with the wonderful erhu soloists, Prof. Dong JinMing and his son Dong Shi Huili.
On January 29 we will perform Kenneth Hesketh’s Orchestration of early piano pieces by Henry Dutilleux who’s 100th birthday we celebrate this year, “Au gré des ondes”, and Hesketh’s own work for Violin and Orchestra, “Inscription – Transformation”. Soloist is the American violinist Janet Sung.
We just finished recording the impressive oboe concertos by Andrei Eshpai and Valeri Kikta for the label Dabringhaus&Grimm. The great soloist Maria Sournacheva was indefatigable: After playing both concertos in the same concert last Friday and Sunday the recording went ultra-smooth. And we were happy to have the composer Valeri Kikta in Göttingen to give his blessing to our interpretation.
